About me & my designs

My passion has been and always will be design and surrounding myself with things that make me feel good about myself and now more pressingly the planet.

After studying Fashion and Marketing at Art College I then started my professional life working in Fashion PR, Marketing and branding.

After working for over 25 years in the big smoke we decided, after the birth of our son, to move to the Sussex countryside and we have never looked back. We are truly blessed to live in an AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) not far from the famous Sussex Downs (hence the name Hall & Downs. My name being Rachel Hall).

I am now at a time where I feel I can finally start designing and creating for myself and (hopefully you). As we approach the AI generation it felt more important to me to do what I love and create from within, inspired by my own surroundings and my love of good design and tradition. After all it’s not always the destination but the journey that gives the greatest rewards and that is what designing means to me… a reward, a joy! 

It's so important to me to be as sustainable as possible and keep my design and making right here in the UK. This allows me to be sure that a fair price is paid and less impact on the planet.

 

My designs…

The older I’ve got the more I’ve wanted to embrace colour. From the clothes that I wear to the colour of my hair and the furnishings in our small but perfectly formed cottage.


I’m starting with cushions as I feel they are such an affordable way to make a big difference to how a room can look and feel. They are also like mini blank canvas’s that I’ve then been able to create and design on.

My designs are bold and sometimes bright making them real focal points in a room. 

I’ve created a technique where I overlay colours and shapes to create texture and depth to my designs. I’m also very much inspired by weavers and the contemporary arts.

Many of the designs can work together to create a conscious clash, it’s now over to you to experiment.
